Making butter

Butter is so yummy!  In this tutorial I will show you how to make your own at home with little fuss or mess.

Items you will need:

  1. Pick which machine.  Kitchen Aid, old fashion hand turner and or jar with motor on top.
  2. Fresh farm cream or heavy whipping cream from store.
  3. Large spoon.
  4. Dish cloth to cover a kitchen aid if that is your choice machine.
  5. Salt
  6. Saran wrap.
  7. Butter molder (optional)
  8. Brown sugar (optional)
  9. Glass jar to put butter milk in.
  10. Medium sized bowl.

First Step: Pick your machine and fill it only half full of cream!pouring cream into jar

Second Step: Turn your machine on or hand turn it until the cream comes clear to the top, breaks back down and you see yellow clumps of butter.  The buttermilk will be splashing all sides of jar.  If you are using the kitchen aid cover it with the dish towel so the buttermilk does not splash all over.Cream being whipped

Third Step: Take your spoon and try to clump or ball the butter up in machine you are using and then scoop it into your bowl.churned butter

Fourth Step: Dump buttermilk into your jar a place in fridge, saving it for another time.butter in a bowl

Fifth Step: Wash out the butter in your bowl by running cold water over it and mixing with your hands.  Repeat this method until the water in the bowl runs clear then drain water out of bowl and bring to your counter.washed butter

Sixth Step: Salt using 1tsp to 1Tbls and or use brown sugar for special occasions.  Work the salt or sugar you have put on your butter in with your hands. If you want unsalted, you would skip this step.salting butter

Seventh Step: Place butter in a mold you have purchased or simply mold it by using your hands.  You are now ready to use it.  Put in a dish, fridge or wrap it in Saran Wrap and freeze it for another day.butter

If you want to make whip cream, you would stop the machine when the cream has gone all the way to the top, broken down about half way and is thick.  Add a little sugar at this point, whip a little longer and you have whip cream.

STRESS KILLS!  Don't stressHow many times have we heard that?  Just like a lot of things in life we’ve been warned about, have witnessed some of the consequences to and yet we don’t listen.  Stress affects your whole body starting with your mind.  It then flows down into the rest affecting every part of you.  When you are stressed your body does not function properly.  It could be you are overwhelmed, have money problems, house is trashed from kids, or maybe your work load is never-ending.  Or perhaps you are one of those people who internalize things instead of speaking up and taking action.  This is a big problem and not one to laugh at.

It is a known fact that stress can cause cancer.  When we are stressed our bodies don’t react in a healthy way.  Crabbyness, depression and health issues are all factors caused by stress.  I have seen the results first hand of someone who internalized things and ended up in the hospital.  It was heart breaking and scary.

The dictionary describes stress as: mental, emotional, or physical tension, strain or distress.  For such a little word it has some pretty big side effects.  Stress is not worth dying over!

As my brothers would say relax my friend and just live each day.  No they are not high on narcotics, they have simply realized in order to meet each day with a new and renewed mind, you have to give up trying to control every little detail and stop planning so many things.  Get a smaller house if need be so you have less to clean.  God himself said, “Don’t worry about tomorrow for I am already there.” If you take this scripture to heart you will have a much happier and healthy life.
