If you’re like my family, you run the dishwasher at least once a day.
Over time, that takes a lot of detergent and also gets expensive.
Besides the cost, do you want ingredients that are harmful going on your dishes? No, you don’t.
This dishwasher detergent has simple ingredients, but ones that
Ready for the recipe? Here you go.
Homemade Dishwasher Detergent
Ingredients and Items needed:
- Medium-sized bowl
- Fork
- Measuring cups
- Ice tray (optional)
- Container to hold your finished product
- Borax, 1 cup
- Lemon juice, 4 Tablespoons per cup of powder
- Washing soda, 1 cup
- Epsom salt, 1/4 cup
Step 1:
Have your bowl and fork ready then measure 1 cup borax and dump into the bowl.

Step 2:
Measure 1 cup washing soda, dump in.

Step 3:
Pour 1/4 cup of Epsom salt and add to the mixture.

Step 4:
Mix everything together with a fork.

Step 5:
Take your lemon juice, and measure 4 Tablespoons to every cup of powder. However, if you’re planning to keep the mixture loose in a container, do not put as much lemon juice in as it will turn hard. A harder mix is better when you’re placing it in the ice cube trays.

Step 6:
You have finished. Now, either spoon your mixture into the trays or dump the mixture into your chosen container.

You can double or triple the batch so you don’t need to make it as often. Honestly though it takes so little time to make, it’s never usually a problem.
The ingredients can be purchased online for convenience or check out local stores to save time.
