What is Oil Pulling?
Oil pulling, also known as “kavala” or “gundusha,” is an ancient Ayurvedic dental technique that involves swishing a tablespoon of oil in your mouth for 15 to 20 minutes.
What Oils do I use?
You can use Olive oil or Coconut oil. Just make sure you are not allergic to one before using it. If you are using coconut oil it will turn into liquid form very quickly or you can let it melt before putting it in your mouth.
What are the Benefits of Oil Pulling?
Oil Pulling is known for drawing out toxins/plaque in your body. We all know how plaque can take away years from your life. The same plaque that builds up on your teeth is the same plaque that builds up on your arteries. That’s one of the reasons dentists always insist on people flossing; to remove the plaque. Oil Pulling is another way to do that plus you gain a wonderful, white and beautiful smile! Not only will you gain a beautiful smile but you will be able to do it naturally, at home and at a very low-cost.
I do not use any type of whitener from the store and my dentist says I have beautiful teeth. Although I drink a lot of tea which is known to stain, my teeth stay healthy and white.
How Oil Pulling Works.
As stated at the beginning of the article, you put 1 Tablespoon of your choice oil above and swish it around in your mouth for 15 to 20 minutes. You don’t have to swish so vigorously to the point of making your jaw hurt. Just pace yourself and at a steady rate swish like you would mouthwash. Make it part of your morning routine while getting dressed. Put the oil in before you get in the shower or do what I do and swish the oil in your my mouth before bed while cleaning up the kitchen and tidying up the house.
The Oil will double in volume as you swish because of saliva, extra plaque and toxins being added. When my children Oil Pull I have them use 1 teaspoon for this reason. After your 15 to 20 minutes is up you discard the oil in the garbage or outside. Do not spit it out in your drain. Eventually, that could clog it unless you plan on running hot water for a few minutes directly behind it. Once the oil is discarded just rinse your mouth out. You now have completed what we call “Oil Pulling.”
How Often Should I Oil Pull?
You can do it every day for a week or until you feel you have the results you want. After that, I would suggest a few times a week. However, continuing every day in no way will hurt you. Remember the benefits. Three times a week is just a suggested amount.
Ending Notes:
They say Oil Pulling will help with gum bleeding, bad breath, acne, strengthens gums, reduces inflammation, boost the immune system, cure tooth decay, prevent heart disease, whiten teeth among others. I can only attest to what I’ve experienced myself and what my dentist has said. Every visit he tells me how healthy my gums are, how white my teeth look and has asked me what I use. My regular physician also comments on how healthy I am every visit. I attest both to living a healthy lifestyle all around. I believe that a holistic approach to health and using foods and remedies in their natural state are so beneficial and the overall key to great health. Life is to be lived and living with a healthy a vibrant body and mind sounds like the best kind of living to me.
So now go grab your choice oil, swish it around and feel better about what you’re removing from your body. Also, look in the mirror to see a whiter and more beautiful smile.
Say Cheese;)
